Senior Engineering Manager – JAVA

A leading privately owned UHNW organization is seeking a senior-level manager to oversee the delivery of web and API solutions. This role involves guiding a high-performing development squad, driving software modernization initiatives, and coordinating releases for critical, customer-facing platforms.
As the delivery lead, you will be pivotal in shaping both greenfield and legacy systems, transitioning from traditional on-premise applications to modern microservices and potential cloud-based architectures. You’ll work closely with business analysts, vendors, and internal teams to ensure top-quality, scalable solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Coordination
- Oversee release management and sprint planning for multiple web and API projects.
- Serve as a key point of contact for the ticket system, ensuring efficient prioritization and resolution of issues.
Software Development & Modernization
- Drive and influence architectural decisions, moving from monolithic to microservices where appropriate.
- Dive deep into technical details, conduct proof-of-concepts (POCs), and maintain coding best practices.
Team & Stakeholder Management
- Lead a specialized web delivery squad (including permanent staff and contractors) by mentoring, setting objectives, and maintaining high-performance standards.
- Collaborate effectively with business analysts, solution architects, and peer groups to align technology solutions with business requirements.
Quality Assurance & Code Review
- Implement robust processes for code reviews and refactoring.
- Champion continuous improvement to maintain high standards of software quality.
Business Analysis & Translation
- Act as a liaison between technical teams and business units, translating complex functional specifications into practical software deliverables.
- Identify critical paths and ensure that development efforts meet business objectives.
Candidate Profile
- Extensive Java Experience: Solid grounding in Java-based web applications (e.g., Spring, Struts), ORM frameworks (Hibernate/JPA), and relational databases (Oracle or similar).
- Leadership & Mentorship: Track record of guiding development teams or squads, providing direction and fostering a collaborative culture.
- Microservices & Cloud Exposure: Familiarity with microservice designs and on-prem-to-cloud transformations (any cloud platform a plus, though not mandatory).
- Analytical & Solution-Focused: Adept at evaluating legacy systems, identifying modernization opportunities, and deploying POCs to validate new approaches.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to present ideas across all organizational levels and guide cross-functional collaborations in both German and English.
